Thanks for stopping by and taking an interest in my work. I have a much larger book chapter on this topic coming out maybe March/April. Your comment made me think about this interesting thing with the beginnings of Buddhism. The federal states that emerged 2500 years ago waged genocidal wars on the smaller/tribal kingdoms. They wanted them gone. It would appear that the sangha of Buddhism is based on an earlier tribal social structure and was an attempt to try and save that way of life and to use it as device for people who were nostalgic about earlier times to find refuge in a fast-changing world. People have been doing this sort of stuff since year dot and there will always be claims to purity + mystery to assert authority. While I'm ambivalent to it all, it seems worthwhile to point out things that often get overlooked.
